When trying to plan a flawless wedding, on-point and efficient wedding vendors are a must. Unfortunately, sometimes you don’t become aware of a vendor’s less-than-stellar worth ethic until you’ve signed on the dotted line or, even worse, the day of your wedding. Unfortunately, there’s no way to 100% guarantee that a vendor will meet your expectations, but you have a better chance of weeding out the undesirables by taking heed to the following red flags.
They have poor online reviews
Online reviews serve as a sneak peek of what you can expect from a particular product, company, or vendor. The Internet is a goldmine for consumer reviews—especially when it comes to weddings.
Of course, the Internet is the Internet, and there will almost always be trolls out there, but for the most part, it seems that these websites try their best to regulate vendor reviews in order to keep them authentic.
They’re terrible with follow-up
There are many moving parts when it comes to planning a wedding, so you want to hire vendors who are reliable. You want to be able to trust them to do what they need to do without you having to hound or micromanage them because honestly, you won’t have time for that.
A tell-tale indicator that a vendor may cause you headaches in the future is that they suck at follow-up, which is unfortunate. Poor follow-up suggests one of two things:
1. They don’t value your business.
2. They’re extremely unorganized.
Both of these situations spell disaster for any bride-to-be.
They’re impolite
Anytime you’re spending money, regardless of how much or how little, you should expect to be treated with the utmost respect. If a vendor can’t carry themselves professionally and treat you as if they’re happy to have your business, you should be ready to take your money elsewhere.
They miss appointments
This goes back to my previous comment about reliability. Unless you’ve agreed to reschedule a meeting in advance or there’s a major personal emergency, missed appointments are a bad look.
If they can’t uphold appointments before they even get your business, how do you think they’ll treat you once they have your money? The last thing you need is a vendor to show up late, or even worse, pull a no-show on the day of the ceremony.
They seem clueless
If it seems as if a vendor doesn’t know what they’re talking about, there’s a good chance that they don’t. Unfortunately, any and everyone with an Internet connection can put together a website and call themselves a wedding planner, DJ, caterer, etc.
There’s nothing wrong with giving a new business a shot, but if it seems as though a vendor is going to drop the ball due to their lack of experience, don’t take the risk.
